Iowa Champions
Policy Development Group

On January 3rd, Iowans will lead the nation in choosing a President. Until then, the national media is telling the country what we care about. Like Stephen Bloom, Journalism professor at the U. Of Iowa, who spent four endless pages in the Atlantic repeating the quadrennial "Why's Iowa First?" discussion, a thinly-disguised trashing of Iowans' ability to be the first test for a Presidential candidate. Responses, including U. Of Iowa President Sally Mason, have tried logic and facts to counter what B. A. Morelli summarized well: "Bloom sought extreme examples. He found them. He wanted a reaction. He got it." That's the difference between Bloom and real Iowans: he's trying to sound smarter and better than other people.

This Iowa Champions Group is a contest for us to describe a terrific Iowan, as a way of showing what we're like, rather than talking in generalities. Then they'll know why we're first, and ought to be.

Also, Discuss the candidates at the main Iowa Caucus group, and at one of Iowa's 5 main regions: IA 01CDIA 02CDIA 03CDIA 04CD and IA 05CD. That's how to give the country a piece of your mind!

Great Iowans
